ColdFusion 9 on Ubuntu with Apache

Ubuntu 9.04 is now an officially supports Operating system for ColdFusion 9.

This is great news. Ubuntu is a great operating system with really upto date repositories ( I just did apt-get upgrade last night and java 1.6.16 is now in the standard repos ).

Although I have been running CF8 on Ubuntu and Debian without issues in the past I think is a good move for Adobe to officially support Ubuntu. There are probably many of us out there that are not running OSX or Windows as our development machines and perhaps even fewer that use OSX and Windows as a server or are at least considering linux as either a server operating system or a desktop enviroment.

I put together a how-to for Installing ColdFusion 9 ( Standard ) on Ubuntu 9.04 and hooking it into apache. I submitted the tutorial to http://www.howtoforge.com and was publish over the weekend. My guide does not go into setting up virtual hosts and presumes every sites will be a cf site but it does walk through the install process step by step.

The guide will work on Ubuntu 9.04 desktop and server and should be the same for earlier versions of both Ubuntu and Debian.  The guide uses 32 versions of both CF9 and Ubuntu but its the same for 64 bit.

Here is the guide on HowToForge

  1. I hope they'll push support to 9.10 when it comes out in a few weeks.
